This month wraps up the year for the 2011 Community Relations Committee for GLAR with our Milestone’s own Sherry Spanyer assuming the role of Committee Chair.  She will do a great job as Lester Sanders did this past year.

We accomplished many things for many people and organizations from all areas of our community.  Projects included VIPS, Repair Affair, Bowl-a-thon, the GLAR  Golf Outing  which raised over $9,000 with proceeds being split evenly between St. John Center for the Homeless and Gilda’s Club Louisville, Pay It Forward Campaign which benefited fifteen individuals or organizations and Camp Quality 2011 that supports children with cancer.  In spite of the difficult times for those in Louisville houses, it has been a great year being able to touch so many lives in a positive way. The Miller Team takes great pride in being able to participate.   In closing, I would like to share our video from this year’s Camp Quality.

Community Relations Committee - Golf and Family Outing

Community Relations Committee - Golf and Family Outing

Unfortunately it has been too long for an update but there is much to share. June was a very active month with the Community Relations Committee organizing the Golf and Family outing held June 13th at Standard Country Club. We had twenty foursomes participate. Our affiliates came through in dramatic fashion with sponsors for each hole, lunch, drink cart and dinner. In addition we had approximately twenty volunteers from our board and committee working at the event. We rose over $8,000 which will be split evenly between St. John Center for the Homeless and Gilda’s Club Louisville. We owe a huge thank you to our affiliates and golfers and are already looking forward to next year.

Repair Affair 2011

Repair Affair 2011

On June 18th six members of our committee participated in Repair Affair with Sherry Spanyer and myself participating from our office. In spite of the weather, we had a great turnout to repair over twenty five Louisville houses of those less fortunate.

Carnival Day for Camp Quality Kentuckiana

Carnival Day for Camp Quality Kentuckiana

On June 30th we sponsored Carnival Day for Camp Quality Kentuckiana. Camp Quality is an organization that works throughout the year for children with cancer. This year there were sixty eight campers along with seventy companions. Over twenty volunteers from our committee participated in our fifth consecutive year of providing this event. The event included inflatable water slides, dunk tank, corn hole, a fantastic DJ, prizes for each camper and companion, Sunday bar and a guest appearance by Buddy Bat, the mascot for The Louisville Bats. On July 23rd we will be taking some of the camper’s families and companions to the Louisville Bats baseball game with one or two of the campers throwing out the first pitch. We could not have put on this event without our Board’s support, gifts from local businesses and our volunteers.

Upcoming events include an ice cream social for St. John’s Center for the Homeless along with providing each quest a pair of socks. Although this may seem as insignificant to most, a pair of socks are important to those not fortunate enough to live in Louisville houses.

I had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. and attend the National Women’s Council of Realtors® Midyear Meeting.  I am always thrilled to be in the presence of such strong business women and learn from some of the best in my field.  I attended an all day class on Level 5 Leadership Skills and learned to improve upon my strengths and acknowledge my weaknesses.   We had great fun and I appreciate my fellow agents for their humor and honesty.

Thanks to Coach Jackie the class It’s A Price War to the Door was both fun and innovative.  I learned new strategies to better position my listings in order to be more competitive in the market.  I am working on repositioning my Louisville houses and getting them to SOLD.  It’s A Price War to the Door was exciting, fast paced and lined with humor.  I will certainly look for more classes in the future with Coach Jackie!

As Vice President of Membership I was proud to be one of the representatives from Louisville to attend the banquet and bring home an award for Gold Status.  In only three years, our local WCR chapter doubled in membership and offers quality programs for it’s members.  I am looking forward to our next meeting in Anaheim!

The Greater Louisville Chapter of Women’s Council of Realtors hosted a Fashion Show and Luncheon on Wednesday, April 20th at Wildwood Country Club.  The Women’s Council of Realtors® is a network of successful Realtors® empowering women to exercise their potential as entrepreneurs and industry leaders.  The mission of the council is to be involved, be informed and be successful.

The theme of the Fashion Show was “The Magic of Derby Fashion” and several local stores provided the women’s and men’s stylish attire. The Derby Fashion models were Realtors®, builders and industry associates. Lots of bright colors, pretty hats and snappy accessories adorned the models. Retail booths were set up throughout the room for everyone to purchase goodies that were on display.

A percentage of the proceeds will benefit The Louisville Fuller Center for Housing.  The Fuller Center for Housing is a non-profit organization that seeks to eradicate poverty housing by promoting partnerships with individuals and community groups to repair, rehabilitate and renovate homes for people in need.

Milestone Realty Consultants had a table of supporters, all of whom took a break from selling Louisville houses to have fun and help raise some money.

I had the opportunity to visit the corner of 41st and Market Street to see the Fuller Center for Housing in action today. They came in one by one, tired, hungry and all smiles. There were kids of all ages taking their Spring Break and giving our fine City something to smile about. There were also many adults visiting for the sole purpose of helping us build Louisville houses. I was there as part of our local chapter for Women’s Council of Realtors to sponsor their lunch. This however, is only part of the story.

The real story is about the relationships that are built, the Community benefiting by the build and most importantly about Juanita and Caroline. I was amazed by the camaraderie between the workers. Most all are from different states and different backgrounds who come together to achieve something very wonderful. Mary from New Jersey, Tim from Minnesota, a couple from Florida and the many many others.

It was quite a joy walking down the sidewalk and seeing house after house being worked on. There was new vinyl, fresh paint, a new roof and then across the street, a brand new house was going up. The City of Louisville is a little brighter today because of all the work, rehab, and cleaning up of the area. Our Louisville houses are being blessed and our community is a little stronger.

And then there is Juanitta and Caroline. I met them both today at lunch. Caroline is getting a new home for her and her daughter and grandchildren. She smiled from ear to ear and praised God for her fortune. Juanita has the brand new house that is almost complete. She was an absolute delight. Both women were warm, inviting, and absolutely grateful.

I was honored to be a small part of something wonderful within our Community! I am sending good wishes to Juanita and Caroline, to Greater Louisville Women’s Council of Realtors and to all that participated in the Derby City Fuller House Build. I am certain Louisville is a better place because of you!

The Community Relations Committee is off to a great start for 2011. Our sixth annual Bowl-A-Thon was held at King Pin Lanes. Milestone agents took a break from selling Louisville houses and we had two teams of four bowling their hearts out. There were a total of over 200 bowlers along with numerous volunteers participating in the event. This year’s benefit rose over $2,000 with the money going to one of our Louisville Realtors who recently suffered a serious stroke. A great time was had by all with music blaring, dancing, prizes, food and of course great bowling.

Our next major event will be the GLAR Golf Outing in June. The event has not been put on by our committee for a few years. A sub-committee is starting to form and the planning is just beginning. We have lofty goals with all of the proceeds benefiting local charities. That charity will be determined at a later date. It is our goal to expand the day to include events for agent family members, dinner afterwords along with music and I am sure some interesting surprises along the way.

Camp Quality is getting kicked off as well. This will be our seventh year of sponsoring an event for the kids and as always we are confident the event will be the biggest and best. The event will take place June 30th and held at Country Lake Resort in Southern Indiana.
