The premise of the show is simple – HGTV pits three renovation projects of a similar cost, area and room against one another with an expert judging a winner based off of who produced the biggest return of investment with their project and ultimately who used their money wisest. For this particular episode area this Saturday, the three contestants were from Midway, Lexington and Nicholasville. James Monroe had renovated his basement in Stuart Hall subdivision January of 2010 and is one of the subjects of this particular episode.

When asked about the experience James had the follow to say,

“This would give visitors an opportunity to see and evaluate our work, imagine my work in their home, and hopefully choose me to build their next home or perhaps they might share with friends who are looking for a custom home builder.”

Bluegrass homes

Bluegrass homes

Whether it’s just a drive by or a future buyer looking for their new dream home, curb appeal draws people in with it’s beauty and conformity. The “wow factor” is a must for Bluegrass homes so here are some helpful hints to help increase yours.

  1. It’s time to divide and replant crowded perennials which will fill in those blank areas of your canvas/yard. Not only will your plants love it, your yard will be that much more striking.
  2. Add mulch that is at least two to four inches. This traps the moisture on our drier days here in Kentucky, keeps the soil temperature cooler by 10 degrees and enriches the soil when the mulch breaks down. It’s a win-win situation for the plants and the homeowner/gardener.
  3. Compost bins are great for recycling veggie matter, which in turn doubles the effect and effort by helping with our environment by using less water and energy. Your yard and garden will love you right back for your efforts!
  4. Pruning roses and dead shrubbery will revitalize your plants, and help them to look their very best. You’ll have neighbors and folks gazing at your yard from a distance.
  5. Fertilizing your flower beds and the borders of your yard will greatly enhance the look of your yard and exponentially multiply the “wow factor”.
  6. Cleaning and repairing tools are essential for making your tasks flow more smoothly and therefore more fun. Plus it’s easier on the plants because you’re cutting them evenly instead of pulling or tearing on them.
  7. Rain barrels are a gardener’s friend and while it’s environmentally friendly by preventing run off, it can also help you with your water bill.
  8. Now is the time to plant fruit bearing vines, and cool weather veggies.

These helpful preparation hints will not only add to your Bluegrass home value, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
