On June 30th our Camp Quality sub-committee consisting of Realtors, affiliates and additional volunteers put on our 4th annual “Carnival Day” for 75 children with cancer between the ages of 7 and 16 left thier Louisville Houses to set off for the Country Lake Christian Retreat in Henryville, IN. The Carnival Day had lots of delightful activities and fun things to play with like inflatable water slides, a dunk tank, a corn- hole tournament, face painting, free tee shirts for everyone, a DJ with outstanding music that kept the kids (and adults) dancing all day and there were over 1000 prizes to be given to the campers. The day concluded with dinner and our group provided a Sunday ice cream bar for everyone. This Carnival Day was after our event on July 17th, when we took over 100 childern with cancer, thier companions and some extra volunteers to the Louisville Bats baseball game. In November we will present the children with a DVD from the event at their annual reunion.
The “Carnival Day” is a huge event that requires the time and assistance from many people and organizations. The vast majority of the games and toys were provided to the children by a local cookie manufacturer. The tee shirts were also donated by a local company as well as several of the monetary donations. We are truly indebted and appreciative of all of the support. With the assistance provided, it allowed us to have funds left over from our budget that will allow us to sponsor a camper at next year’s event!
